The Eskleyside Agricultural Society was formed in 1899 to serve the isolated farms, villages and hamlets in several parishes in the west of the county. The Society has held an annual ploughing competition for 101 years. It was cancelled for the first time in 2001 due to Foot and Mouth disease.
The Society has recorded the heritage of the community. It has held reminiscence workshops, record memories and produced a heritage pack, a reminiscence tape and a play. Local schools have been encouraged to become involved.
