Fownhope Oral History
Location: Herefordshire

The project is to understand the changes in the social and economic life of Fownhope over the past 80 years, as remembered by those who have lived in the village. This will be done through a series of oral history interviews and through research carried out in the County Records Office, city library, school records, club records etc.

The group are hoping to build up an extensive archive of documents, old photographs and maps and through local open meetings encourage people to bring memories and mementos of their past to share. The group will also produce displays and exhibition material to be used, at the local meetings and in a standing display accessible to the public and to visitors.

The group also want to produce a photographic record of life in the community in 2006, to act as a benchmark for old photographs and other artefacts gathered in the project to demonstrate the changes that have taken place within living memory. In addition, the group will be producing a book concentrating on life between the wars (1919-1950), and to produce a CD with extracts from taped interviews and other material.
