About 50% of the original Priory structure was demolished during the reformation leaving only part of the original complex, which today forms the present Priory. The Friends of the Priory have been carrying out work to maintain the building and raise awareness of the site for a number of years, and with the LHI award they plan to carry out a geophysics project to determine the extent of the original Priory, to produce a model of what the original may have looked like, and produce two books and hold a series of events. One of the events will be a talk on the findings of the various surveys carried out. The talk will disclose information about the site hitherto undiscovered that may prove to be of national archeological importance! This talk is planned for the end of November. The dates will be posted in these pages as soon as they have been confirmed.
Originally, the group were awarded an NBS award to hold a pageant to portray the medieval history of the Priory. The pageant has turned into a play! This new play, “How we built the Priory” ,was commissioned by the Friends of Leominster Priory and has been written and produced by a local professional with musical direction by a local composer. The play’s actors are from many backgrounds -- housewives, students, an accountant, musicians and more. They’re real community performers who have decided to take action rather than holding out hands for public money. See the events page “How we built the Priory” for more details on the performances.
