The Genesis Project, Leominster Priory
Location: Herefordshire
The aim of the project is to stage an historical exhibition on the foundation of the church in Leominster, and the growth of the town around the religious settlement and the monastic site.
Currently there is a distinct lack of local, well interpreted historical information available to local people or visitors to the town. The group want to carry out research and create display boards, for an exhibition outlining the history of the Priory, from its foundation, through the dissolution, up to more recent times.
The group want to produce a DVD on the historical and architectural features of the church and a guide book. They also plan to work with a walks co-ordinator to develop a series of walks from the Priory taking in the sites with particular historical links.
One of our other Local Heritage Initiative projects will be carrying out a dig in the Priory grounds and any new information will feed into the information produced in this project.
