Weobley Castle Archaeology Project (Phase 2)
Location: Herefordshire

The project is to further investigate the castle site in Weobley village and the surrounding fields but taking a different approach.

The group carried out an LHI project last year surveying the castle and surrounding areas. Following this survey work the group now want to dig a total of eight trenches to locate the castle wall and ditch, locate features south of the castle remains, the leat and mill site, a possible prehistoric enclosure and to locate and identify houses within the castle’s inner bailey.

The local community will be given the opportunity to participate in the excavation work and the findings will be presented at a village exhibition. The group then hope to carry out another project which will be an architectural investigation into the buildings and growth of the borough to which the castle is related.

The information from gathered from these different projects will lead to the understanding the history and development of Weobley and its castle.
