Hopesay Heritage Project
Location: Shropshire

The project aims to reveal and detail the natural heritage of the churchyard and its built features for the benefit of the present community and to ensure the preservation of these for future generations.

Part of the project is for the restoration of a stained glass medieval window showing the Earl of Arundel dating from 1379 which is in need of restoration cleaning, and preserving and the restoration of a lych gate and stone wall repairs.

The group are also hoping to re-instate the church’s Saxon font, which was moved to a nearby church which is now closed down. The project will cover the church, churchyard and wildlife meadow. They plan to carry out surveys of archaeological features, trees, birds, mammals and all plant species and archive work looking at the history of the area, the results of this will feed into their management plan so that they can protect the heritage of the area in the future.

They will present the findings from their research through leaflets, reports, and interpretation panels.
