Lyth Hill Community Heritage Project
Location: Shropshire

This project will investigate and explain the natural and cultural heritage at Lyth Hill for the benefit of wildlife, the historic environment and the local community.

The hill is a popular site for locals and visitors, comprising of semi-natural ancient woodland, species rich grass land, areas of scrub and damp grassland.

Historically it has been important for greenwood industries, quarrying and rope making. The area has a close connection with the author Mary Webb who lived on the hill and used it as inspiration for her novels and poems.

The group want to carry out wildlife, geology and history surveys of the area, which will then be fed into the management plan. On site interpretation boards, a Mary Webb trail leaflet and interpretive seating will be produced in consultation with local people.

The residents of Lyth Hill will be producing a community book including current knowledge and history from local people about the site, together with a number of events, walks and talks promoting the heritage of the area.
