Sheinton Heritage Project
Location: Shropshire
The group are going to undertake research into the history, geography, geology, archaeology, flora and fauna of Sheinton and it's surrounding environs.
The group then hope to use this information to produce a book, CD Rom and website and perhaps use the information gained as a basis for further research. Part of the project will involve some archaeological work - a geophysical survey, field walking and some trial excavations.
In order to set Sheinton within it's local landscape the area being studied includes fourteen parishes, those that were covered on the south side of the River Severn by the Cressage Area Research Project plus Buildwas, Leighton, Eaton Constantine and Wroxeter on the north bank of the river.
To launch our project a number of events have been held. These included guided geology walks; displays at the “Your History Day” in Shrewsbury organised by the Friends of Shropshire Archives, Sheinton Fete, & Wenlock Museum.
Further information on these and other events can be found at www.sheinton.org.uk
