To digitise Newport History Society's photographic archive and to conserve and store the photographs and slides portraying the people, places and events of the town of Newport.
The website is a prestigious project, based at Shropshire Archives, that will cover the whole of historic Shropshire, and the photographs will be linked in with the county's Sites and Monuments Records and museum as well as the historic documents records for the whole county.
Visitors to the new website will be able to view our unique photographs, and find new information about their local area. Most of the photographs have previously been accessible only to members of the History Society.
We are hoping that it will be of interest not only to local people, but ex-Novaportans from all around Britain and the world. It is also our hope that web surfers will help us identify mystery photos. The website will be accessible to all the local schools for historical investigations and course work.
