Presentation by MP to logo design winners

Progress report for March 2006

Progress report for March 2006
Location: Shropshire

SNAP LogoAfter winning a lottery grant last November, we have purchased much of our computer equipment which we needed to complete the digitisation of the Society's historic photographs.

Our MP, Mark Pritchard, presented prizes for our logo competition, which was open to local school children. The winner was Jess Austin of the Burton Borough school. The runner-up was Lindsey Wilson also of the Burton Borough School. A letterhead has been printed using the new logo and a poster has just been produced. The logo that appears to the right of this report is Jess's design.
(Photos of the presentation can be seen here)

Six members of the team are doing computer training; concentrating especially on scanning and digitising images preparatory to the photos being put onto the Discovering Shropshire's History website.

Part of the bid was to promote the SNAP project with local elderly people and to use the photographs to jog peoples memories of the town. At the present time we are working with residents of Hallcroft Close and Gardens. We will be having a display of mystery photos in their community room for a month, and we shall be taping and transcribing their reminiscences. Our next reminiscence talk will be at the Rainbow Club on 18th May.

The Discovering Shropshire's History website will be going live in May. This is the site where our photographs will be on view.

On May 20th we will be having a launch event for members of the public to see what we've been doing and to see the site go live. This will be at the town library and Mark Pritchard, MP, will cut the ribbon! You will be able to see the equipment that we have bought with the lottery money. You can also bring local historic photos on the day for us to scan in. The photos could be ancient or modern; photos that you think show the life of our town and the people. (Most of the photos scanned will be on the website, but we cannot guarantee that they will be).

On that day we shall also be having a Finds Day in the library from 11.00am onwards. More on the Photos & Finds Day will be advised in April or May.
