The Flounders Folly Restoration Project
Location: Shropshire
The Flounders Folly Trust was originally formed to restore an important landmark built by local engineer Benjamin Flounders in 1838, which had become dilapidated and overgrown.
Having acquired the freehold of the listed building, and secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for the physical repair and improvement works, the Trust wanted to interest and involve the local community in the Folly’s history and natural heritage.
This project set out to research the life of Benjamin Flounders, to record local memories of the site, to investigate and enhance the area's plants and wildlife, and to improve access to the heritage.
Volunteers would receive training to enable them to undertake environmental surveys, plant new hedgerows, and hold events focusing on nature conservation as well as regular open days for visitors to the historic building.
Information would be made available through leaflets and on the project’s own Information would be made available through leaflets and on the project’s own website
