The Legacy Sir Edward German - A Development and Research Project towards the Edward German Festival 2006
Location: Shropshire

THe project is to celebrate the life, works and times of Sir Edward German; a composer of considerable influence and son of Whitchurch, seventy years after his death in 1936 and to explore the links between his music and the local landscape and culture. This will be achieved by developing a community led project of research and development, which will culminate in a week long festival of music, arts and heritage based events.

The group plan to create heritage trails around the town associating with the German's life and times, which will also be available from the website. They will also be holding an exhibition of related materials in the heritage centre to coincide with the festival. There will be a number of musical events held throughout the festival week involving the local choir groups, local schools, performance and singing workshops for young people and a premier performance of one of German's unpublished works.

In addition the group have uncovered a collection of memorabilia associated with the composer, which they plan to make publicly available for the first time.
