The Norbury Walls Project
Location: Shropshire

Norbury is one of the few walled villages in Shropshire, based in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Through HLF’s Blue Remembered Hills project, these walls were identified by the local community as one of their most valued landscape features and as an important part of the built heritage in Shropshire’s Landscape Character Assessment. Unfortunately, since the 1950’s these dry stone walls have begun to fall into disrepair.

A local working group want to restore these walls to their original state and train up local residents to maintain them in the future. They also want to carry out surveys monitoring how the walls are used as a habitat for wildlife, flora, mosses and lichens to encourage this wildlife through the restoration.
