Hammerwich Environment Group
Location: Staffordshire

The parish of Hammerwich is within the Forest of Mercia. The parish was one of the last areas in Staffordshire to be enclosed and still contains areas of lowland heath.

The Birmingham Northern Relief Road is passing through the parish. This, and perceived degradation of the natural environment, led to the formation of the group.

The group have successfully completed an Awards for All project which looked at the wildlife of the parish.

The group has produced:

  • six walk leaflets;
  • held a series of events;
  • created a website;
  • recorded local reminiscences;
  • collected old photographs.
  • The group has also produced an interpretation panel.
