The Location, Restoration and Resiting of the pumps
Location: Staffordshire
The pumps were originally situated in six locations around Cannock. They were removed during the 1940 and 50's after being in place for almost 200 years
A search was started to try and locate the whereabouts of the six original pumps and in the winter of 2003 a bid was made to try and obtain a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Staffordshire Environment Fund.
Two of the original pumps were located much to the delight of the Conduit Trustees. One was in Milford, Staffordshire and the other in Worcestershire. The owners Mr Chris Gregory and Mrs Lindsay were pleased to return their pumps to Cannock.
Early in 2004 grants totaling £28,000 were awarded from Heritage Lottery Fund and Staffordshire Environment Fund; therefore allowing part of this grant to go towards the renovation, resiting and indicating the original positions of the six pumps.
In October 2004 the two pumps had been renovated, six plaques produced and they had all been resited around Cannock Town Centre.
The six locations are:-
The Conduit Head, The Green - Pump and Plaque Nationwide Building Society, Market Place - Plaque Corner of Avon Road and Market Place - Pump and Plaque Attached to St. Luke's Church boundary wall, The Ringway (originally Mill Street) - Plaque Mill Street by Morrison's Supermarket - Plaque Junction of New Penkridge Road and Dartmouth Road - Plaque
