Shenstone Parish Survey Project
Location: Staffordshire
The project aims to carry out research on human activity within Shenstone from Prehistoric times onwards. The group hope to produce a sequence of maps to illustrate the development of settlement, landuse and human activity, by focusing on selected parts of the Parish. They will also be carrying out documentary, cartographic and field survey work in order to build up a picture of how the area has developed over time and the effect man has had on the environment.
The second focus of the project is one of community development. It is intended that the project be used as a way or raising the awareness of the local community to the historic environment within which it lives. To encourage community involvement and inclusion into the project and promote the protection and sustainability of the local historic environment.
Local people and other members of the group will be encouraged to take part in training sessions on archaeological field techniques and the information gathered through the project will be disseminated through local events, reports and booklets.
