Hill Close Gardens Trust
Location: Warwickshire

Hill Close Gardens are a group of Victorian Detached Town Gardens and a Grade II* registered site. This once very common garden type has now almost completely disappeared, with only four remaining now nationally.

The aim of the project is to develop a reminiscence project centred on Hill Close Gardens, recalling the gardens themselves and the families that used to occupy plots there. A subsidiary aim is to record, through the eyes of residents and volunteers, the process of restoration of the gardens that started in 1998. As with all reminiscence based projects there is an element of ‘a race against time’ to capture the memories of elderly people and if the project is not supported this valuable primary source evidence might be lost forever.

The cost for the equipment for the reminiscence work will be £3,220 with a training element of £500 and the production and editing costs of the video will be £5,000. The results of this work will be shared with the wider community through leaflets (£1,099), a series of small exhibitions, an education pack (£1,500), a DVD and website (£2,380).
