Guarlford History Project: Phase 2
Location: Worcestershire
Our new project is to create a sequel to the highly successful book, “The Guarlford Story”. The new book will be a pictorial history based on photographs taken between 1900 and the present day to be entitled “The Guarlford Scene”. The History Group is asking for the loan of old photographs and permission to publish them, together with associated memories and reminiscences.
A photographic competition has been launched with the theme of the Guarlford countryside and farming activities today. This will contribute to the “then and now” aspect of the pictorial history, making a contrast between twentieth century life and the new century we’re living in. The book will also include neighbourhood group photographs of present-day Guarlford and of groups such as the Parish Council, the Rector and churchwardens, the W.I. and local business people.
We will also develop further our new web site which covers matters to do with the local community, including the business of the Parish Council, Village Hall, Church and the W.I., as well as the activities of the History Group itself. It is hoped that the web site will not only provide an important means of communication, but also a way of helping to maintain village identity and pride – something of particular interest to the Local Heritage Initiative which has provided invaluable financial support for our History Group enterprises.
There are also plans to publish a series of parish walk leaflets, and to continue recording stories and memories.

A presentation to the village was held in June 2006 to launch the second phase of the project when villagers brought more photographs and memorabilia and had a good chat over tea and cakes. A further drop in session is planned for 8th October 2006 when parishioners will be able to have photographs "scanned while they wait". A Mini Disk recorder will also be available to record memories.
We are also planning talks which can be given to local groups and schools. |
