Stourport Civic Society
Location: Worcestershire

Stourport is a uniquely well preserved example of a canal town and its industrial buildings and canal basins tells much about 18th and 19th century attitudes to wealth, industry and housing.

There is a lack of understanding and recognition by local people as to the value of Stourport’s fascinating heritage. The group hope to address this by collating existing information and carrying out new research on Stourport.

This information will then be transferred onto Worcestershire Historic Environmental Record and the data interpreted to create a map of the development of the town, with associated text, bibliography and images. Local people will be encouraged to contribute to this large database through recording and photographing important non-listed buildings and other structures.

There will also be a series of training and educational sessions to inform local people on the use and significance of the resource, which will be available on the web. It will also lead to the production of a number of heritage trails in Stourport.
