ANSart Childhood Heritage Project
Location: Barnsley

This project will work with local families, youth groups, community groups. schools and the wider community to explore and document the community's changing experience over the past fifty years of childhood and childcare in the estates of Athersley. They will research and discover attitudes and practices in relation to diet and health, games, motherhood and fatherhood, lone parents, the home, extended family, holidays and celebrations.

They will achieve this by carrying out oral reminiscence work in the community and collecting old photographs and memorabilia in 'memory boxes' with other people's groups, working men's clubs and sure start parents.

The results of these will be used to inspire workshops including one on poetry with young children, creative writing and story telling with Suretart parents and community groups and silk and batik painting with parents and the craft group.

The findings will be published in a book and on a CD Rom and illustrated with work from the workshop sessions.
