The aim is to restore the War Memorial and replace the existing names with the military rank and medal awards being added, plus additional names and details which were originally omitted, but have come to light through research. These will be engraved on new granite panels which will cover the existing names and inscriptions. This will preserve the Memorial for future generations.
The group wants to ensure that the memorial continues to remind people of the sacrifice that was made by both men and women in various theatres of war, which is an important part of the local heritage.
Work is being done on finding details of those who lost their lives and the group will continue to work closely with the local community though displays in the local library and requests for information in the local newspaper.
The group plans to produce a memorial book that will include details of those who died. This will involve the wider community in researching family histories/local records in researching the impact of the wars on the community.
