Phase One

Royston History Group (Phase 2)
Location: Barnsley

This project will involve the community researching the history and experiences of local women who were employed at the 'Volusta' factory, a local shirt manufacturer. The research is focussing on the lives of the women employed between the 1940's and 1970's in a village that was dominated by traditional industries employing a mainly male workforce (rail, coal).

Building on the work carried out in Phase One they will provide training in digital imaging, interviewing and sound recording/editing and CD production. Oral reminiscence work will be carried out using digital equipment (previous recordings have been carried out using tape).

This project will enable more local people to use the multi-media archive the group have developed and make the reminiscences available on the LHI Website. Participants will be invited to scan their old photographs/documents into the archive. The archive will be available on CD Rom. There are good links with BBC Radio Sheffield and they will advertise the project through this medium.
