The group's work
Location: Barnsley

The group meets formally on a fortnightly basis at Royston Library and has a busy schedule. It has visited local museums, libraries and archives and, from time to time, speakers are invited to talk about local heritage and environmental topics.

For many years the librarian at Royston library has collected a miscellaneous collection of material ranging from newspaper cuttings to old maps. Recently the history group has undertaken the job of cataloguing this material and hopes to produce a digital index later this year.

The grant from LHI enabled the group to create the Royston and Carlton Community Archive, a digital archive of photographs and reminiscences from the community. A CD of the archive is now available.

Our Website

Now the group has launched its second major book it is working on a new book which will be a history of the Valusta shirt factory. The book is to be a collection of reminiscences from ex-employees accompanied by old photographs.
