A Breath of Fresh Aire
Location: Bradford
The project combines an exploration of the built heritage of Buck Wood with that of the natural and archaeological heritage and a survey of why it is important to the current users. The group will contract a professional to undertake the archaeological survey and the ecological survey.
The community will be invited to assist with both of these aspects through "come and learn" sessions and being given the opportunity to undertake practical work. They will investigate what local people value about the wood using Common Grounds A-Z technique. This information will be used to inform the events programme and leaflets.
This programme will also be enhanced by research undertaken into the industrial heritage of the woodland (Mill and former open air school). The access to the area will be improved.
Volunteers will be trained on woodland ecology; archaeology survey techniques and first aid. Interpretation boards will be added to each entrance of the wood to provide information about its heritage.
