In response to local wishes, the group is to co-ordinate a project to record the history, and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of South Asians in the Bradford area. It will highlight their contribution to life in the area, provide educational information and promote a vision for future multicultural relations.
This is a challenging, possibly a unique project in a depressed inner-city area. It aims to collage life-experiences and written accounts from both the Asian and the "traditional white" population of Bradford. The group wish to make a video highlighting the experiences of the broad age ranges of the population; first, second and third generations.
The video is aimed at the wider community and school. It is hoped it will be screened in schools, a local cinema and possibly outside Bradford. A teaching pack will supplement the video and a launch event is planned once the project reaches its completion.
Material will be acquired by volunteer researchers and a mix of volunteer and professional filmers. This will require considerable training, in interview, artwork, publicity, education and research training workshops. This may help to bring long term social and technical skills to the area.
