DIGITAL ARCHIVE
Location: Doncaster

The Barnburgh and Harlington local history group is in the process of establishing a digital archive using COMMA software. Events will be held in the community when people will be able to bring along their family pictures, their reminiscences and memorabilia to be scanned into the group's computer. A CD of the archive will eventually be made available to the community and the school.

Both Barnburgh and Harlington are still very attractive villages. The two hamlets have always been agricultural communities although they did have a coal mine and throughout the twentieth century were surrounded by mining communities.
Not only has coal mining gone from the area but farming methods have changed dramatically over recent years and this, to some extent, has changed the two villages.

Several of the old and valued buildings have vanished, Barnburgh Hall, the cottages and Grange farm seen on this page have gone. Many of the old farm buildings that remain have been transformed and are no longer farms. The railway which ran through Harlington Halt has also gone

The group intends that the archive, along with the group's publications, will enable the heritage of the two villages to be better understood and celebrated.
