Beverley Parks Orchard Project
Location: East Riding of Yorkshire

The group aims to promote awareness of traditional northern apple varieties (Hornsea Herring, Fillingham Pippin) and or orchard management. The group will use an existing orchard (Park Orchard) in order to provide training days for the community in traditional orchard management methods (4 days) and of management of traditional apple varieties.

The group will publicise the project and update the community on progress through distribution of leaflets to local libraries; tourist information centres and local shows; leaflets will also include a site guide for visitors. A website updating the community will also be produced.

The group will link the project with National Apple Day (October each year) and will hold a free event to include apple variety identification and traditional apple recipes. The event will also provide an opportunity for the community to meet and discuss growing traditional apple varieties with fruit growers.

Practical management of the site (weeding, tree planting, pruning) will also be undertaken by members of the community. The group will improve access to the asset by the provision of a footpath to the Orchard. The group will work with local schools to produce artwork relating to traditional orchards, which will be displayed at the event.
