Bridlington Sailing Coble Preservation
Location: East Riding of Yorkshire

Bridlington Sailing Coble Preservation Society wanted to undertake urgent maintenance and refurbishment of the Three Brothers, which was built locally in Bridlington in 1912 and was the last remaining coble of its type.

Alongside the restoration, the project set out to celebrate and raise awareness of the marine heritage of the Bridlington coast and the boat through a programme of research, promotion and education based at the small harbour museum where the coble is displayed.

As well as offering drama presentations to schools and other groups, the project planned to produce two explanatory leaflets and to create an archive on CD.

The Society hoped that the project would attract more members and volunteers to help maintain the vessel in a seaworthy condition, to be trained in sailing, health and safety, boat handling and traditional boat building techniques, and to pass on those skills to the community.
