Millbeck Wildlife and Recreation Group
Location: East Riding of Yorkshire

The group wish to investigate the natural heritage of an area of meadow. The group will undertake a wildlife survey, involving the entire community, of the area. They hope that this will raise the awareness of the local area and the natural heritage within it.

The site comprises of 2 distinct areas, one of meadow and one of woodland. The group will study the wildlife of both areas, producing leaflets about the area. The group will distribute these through local libraries. The group will involve two local schools in the project. They will invite the children to take part in the wildlife surveys, and will encourage the participation of their families through the production of a self guided discovery trail leaflet. These will be produced with the technical input of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, who are supporting the group in their activities.

The Wildlife Trust will assist the group in developing and holding workshop events on the site in order to train the entire community in the survey techniques for wildlife. The survey will encompass both areas of the site and will inform the production of education packs for use with the schools (12 packs on different aspects of the site). These will be available to download from the village web pages as well as being available from the group in printed format.
