Skipsea Community Heritage Project
Location: East Riding of Yorkshire
The Skipsea History Workshop was formed to investigate and interpret Skipsea’s rich history and to make available the result of this work in different formats to as many people as possible.
Residents and visitors will be encouraged to interpret and appreciate the fascinating and rich history on their doorstep. The project will involve as many individuals and groups as possible in the various aspects of the project, including residents of all ages, past residents, holiday makers (many of whom see Skipsea as their second home), as well as the many groups and organisations in the parish.
As many avenues of research as possible will be explored, ranging from visits to the public records office in Kew, local libraries and including oral history.
The project outputs will include the production of a village archive (result of research/documents, photos and oral testimony), a village history book, leaflets on specific features, 2 village information boards and a heritage trail within the parish.
The group have gained the advice of the York Oral History Society and arranged for the archive to be stored in Skipsea Village Reading Room and the East Riding County Archive.
