The Weighton Beat
Location: East Riding of Yorkshire
The group aim to produce a 24-page quality historic town guide for distribution to the town's residents. The group intend the publication will contain information about Market Weighton's local heritage including information regarding the importance of the town during Roman Times and in later times as the third largest sheep market in Europe.
An exhibition will be held, open to all local residents to display the information collected to date and inviting residents to bring along old photographs/historical artefacts that are important to them.
The group have regular contact with Yorkshire Wolds Heritage Trust and local historians. Elaine Mills and Enid Greenwood (whose families owned shops on the Hight Street for generations) for advice and guidance.
Skills have been developed in the group on local history research and heritage interpretation project planning and typesetting.
The outputs will be the guide, a launch event over the summer with an opportunity for people to contribute ideas for a Phase 2 project and an evaluation of their success.
