Slaithwaite Spa Reawakened
Location: Kirklees

The group wish to research the history of the former Slaithwaite Spa, which was once a prominent and much respected feature in the Colne Valley.

The group will undertake desk research into the area, supported by West Yorkshire Archaeological Services (WYAS), who will also survey the area helping the group to identify remaining features of the Spa. A technical report will be produced from the information gathered as well as an information booklet. This will be deposited with local libraries as well as the County Records Office.

The group will produce an exhibition based on the information they gather (including design workshops for the community). This will tour six locations in the area. The group will also use the exhibition as a method of gathering memories from residents who may remember the Spa complex.

The group will undertake environmental improvements to the area. These will include the thinning of overgrown areas of vegetation, as well as restoring planting to reflect the original scheme that would have been visible on the ground at the time of the Spa.

The group will produce an interpretation panel for the area and will also hold a Spa celebration day towards the close of the project.
