Tales of the Mills
Location: Kirklees

This project involved members of Friend to Friend (a group of people aged between 70 and 100+) and the wider community in activities connected with the textile industry in the Holme Valley.

One aim of the project was to preserve first hand information about this almost extinct industry by recording memories of mill workers' working lives, both as sound recordings and in writing.

Through a variety of craft sessions led by experts over a period of eighteen months, the project also hoped to revive some of the textile crafts, such as weaving and rug-making.

At the end of the project, a book drawing on the project’s research would be launched at an exhibition to display the work achieved during the craft sessions.
