Woodscapes's Woodland Ways
Location: Kirklees

This project aims to research the history of the Bradley/Gate/Fell Greave woodland complex once owned by Fountains Abbey. The group intends to carry out surveys of the archaeological and natural heritage of the woods and expand their conservation/access work throughout the woods. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with archaeologists to learn skills involved in surveying the woods and attend workshops in interpreting the data. A biodiversity survey will be carried out with volunteers trained in skills required under the National Vegetation Classification. Working with Huddersfield Local History Society they will research a report on the social history of the wood.

An access and recreation audit and local user survey (with the residents association) will also be carried out. The group will design a community information/schools leaflet to interpret the findings of the report and surveys. They intend this work will lead to further projects and a future management plan.
