History of Kippax
Location: Leeds

To produce a written and illustrated history of the village of Kippax from the Stone Age to the ed of the 20th Century. Volunteers will be involved in carrying out research at, for example the country records office and the Yorkshire Archaeological Society.

A comprehensive history of the village has never been written. The group will research the geology of the area to better understand the development of two SSSI's in the Parish. A geophysical survey will be carried out to understand the extent of the castle site in the village.

Volunteers will also be involved in writing copy, collecting oral reminiscences, becoming involved in guided heritage walks around the Parish, lectures for the public and schools (3 primary, 1 secondary) and contributing memories and photographs.

The area has a mining history, there is evidence of two large mansions now demolished that the group would like to explore, the group intends that each volunteer will work on at least one chapter of the book enabling people to focus on different eras of the development of the village.

Outputs will also include an exhibition, walk leaflet, IT training and all the information will be in a published book.
