"it's The Law!" - Trials and Tribulations of the Wharfe Valley
Location: Leeds

The group wish to produce and perform a play about the history of Otley Courthouse. The Courthouse, a 19th Century Magistrates Court became a community resource centre in 2004 and the group plan to raise awareness and understanding of its heritage increasing the Centre's role as a focal point for the community.

The community will be invited to take part in the project and anyone wishing to have a role in the play will be given one. The production will be facilitated by a community arts group who will run workshops and rehearsals.

Using the ideas generated by the play, local young people will devise their own plays under the guidance of local youth theatre directors who will run 18 workshops. The group will form a community band, open to all members of t he community and guided by a community musician to perform a variety of historical musical genres to accompany the play.

The group will produce a dedicated project website to include information and research about the heritage of the Courthouse and surrounding area. A CD-Rom resource pack will be created for schools to use when visiting the Courthouse and workshops will be run for local primary schools. It will be provided for community members to enable them to produce the website and resource pack.
