Summary of high school questionnaire
Location: Leeds

Returned questionnaires 239 Age range 11- 15+ years

The High Street was a focus of attention
· Most litter in Kippax was in the High Street.
· The second most unsafe place in Kippax was the High Street.
· Most buildings needing maintenance and protection were here.
· More shops were needed with a greater variety of goods on sale.

Use of leisure facilities
· Over 40% of pupils in this age range never use the municipal facilities on offer.
· A third felt that disabled sports facilities offered were reasonable.
· If new facilities were provided the most popular provision would be: 50% support for Pool: 43% support for Tennis: 42% support for Dance: 41% for horse riding. Much overlap of choice showed a wide spread of interest.
· Reasons for not taking part in sport included over 50% not being interested.

Transport Use
· 40% often used the bus service to travel to school.
· 45% used the bus service occasionally for social/leisure purposes.
· Most pupils travelled by other forms of transport.

Provision of a new site for family leisure
· Most pupils wanted this provision.
· The two most popular sites were Cheeny Basin and land near the leisure Centre.

Publicising events
· The best places were in newspapers both local & free types:
· 45% plumped for notice boards.

Interest in the Environment
· Most felt that the quality of the surrounding countryside was important.
· Around 40% did not know if the countryside around Kippax had changed in recent years.
· This age range supported caring for trees and woodland.
· Reducing traffic in the area.
· A massive 73% voted for recycling.
· Over 20% were concerned about heritage information and local walks.
· Over two thirds wanted to repair local walls.
· Signposts and notice boards were requested by over 40% of high school pupils.

Heritage Sites
· It was generally felt that heritage should be preserved and protected.
· The pupils wanted Kippax carnival or gala to be restored.
