Summary of household questionnaire
Location: Leeds

3% RETURNS REPRESENTING 7.5% KIPPAX RESIDENTS

The High Street was a focus of your attention
· Litter was considered worst along this street.
· People who felt unsafe in Kippax pointed up this street as being the most intimidating place to be after dark.
· Some of the shops and old buildings were in need of a “facelift”.
· Most people wanted to protect and preserve the old buildings in this area.

Use of Leisure facilities
· A high proportion of people never use the leisure facilities on offer at the Sports Centre on Station Road.

Transport Issues
· The bus service is under used. More than 60% of the residents use other forms of transport. The service is used mainly for social or leisure purposes.
· Leeds Road followed by Longdyke Lane are the most used routes out of the village for those who work outside of Kippax.

Building Development
· No further building development is wanted in the village or in the surrounding green belt.
· Over 60% felt that no further homes were needed.


Work Opportunities
· Most people thought that no other work opportunities were needed in Kippax.
· The balance favoured sheltered workshop types of facilities.

Provision of a new site for family leisure
· The land next to the Leisure Centre was the most popular site for a new play area closely followed by two other areas- Kippax Common/ Kippax North area and Brigshaw Lane/Kippax Park area.

Publicising events
· More signs in the village were required.
· More heritage information and walking routes were requested.
· Over half of the people wanted notice boards.

Interest in the Environment
· Over 80% supported caring for woodland and planting trees.
· Hedges and walls were to be maintained.
· A significant number wanted improved public transport and voted for car sharing and traffic reduction.
· Improved rights of way were requested by 34%.
· 74% voted for recycling this was a view shared by the young people of Kippax in their responses.

Heritage Aspects
· The built heritage- 7 sites all worthy of protection and preservation were mentioned. St Mary’s church and graveyard rated most highly followed by the Infant School on Leeds Road.
· The green heritage worthy of conservation included Billy Woods and the green belt.
· Included in cultural heritage that should be restored people wanted the Kippax carnival.


The most appreciated qualities of Kippax
· Friendly people live here.
· There are good road links close by.
· Kippax has a village feel to it.
· It is surrounded by green belt.
· Kippax is peaceful and clean.
· It has a low crime rate.
