Meanwood Village Green Wall Project
Location: Leeds

The group have three aims with this project:

To restore a locally important drystone wall in the village, to research the local history of the Meanwood Quarry and research the history of the Meanwood Cricket Club. They will work in partnership to restore the wall with the six teams (including children) who play cricket on the green (the walls forms a boundary). They will work with a contractor to do this.

The group will research the history of playing cricket on the Green including local characters and stories. Local residents will be interviewed to record their memories of the Quarry and the cricket club. (Training will be provided by the Oral History Society). This footage will be combined with the filming of the restoration of the wall to make a video of the project. Volunteers will be trained in drystone walling skills and filming and editing footage.

The quarry provided stone for locally important buildings such as the Parish Church, Meanwood Village School and Mill Hill Chapel Leeds.
