Protection of Prehistoric Earthworks in GIpton Wood (Phase 2) (Phase 2)
Location: Leeds

The group wish to access funding to complete the second phase of the project investigating the earth works in Gipton Wood. The first phase involved archaeological survey of the site.

The second phase of the project will improve access to the feature through provision of two paths through the woodland. This will improve access for the general public including disabled and those with push chairs through the provision of a surfaced pathway. The pathway will also provide adequate drainage away from the earthworks helping to prevent further erosion of the feature. One of the pathways will also incorporate a viewing platform so that the earthwork can be easily seen by the general public.

The group will also hold displays in the woodland relating to the feature and will hold six specific events to involve local children and the wider community in the project. The group will also produce a display of the findings from the first phase of the project and will also undertake practical conservation works (tree planting etc) as identified in the management plan for the woodland produced in the first phase of the project.
