Air Photography and Geophysical Survey

An air photo mapping survey and interpretation of the Leys Lane area was completed in summer 2003, which reveals extensive crop mark features suggestive of prehistoric or Romano-British field systems, tracks and enclosures, as well as medieval ridge and furrow.

The survey helped to target areas for an 18-hectare geophysical survey begun in early autumn, which revealed extra features. This is still in progress, but some exciting results have already appeared that will help guide excavations over the next few years.
