The development of the Leeds Sijkh Temple, Chapeltown Road, Leeds
Location: Leeds

To produce an historical account of the establishment of the Sikh Temple in Chapeltown. The project will use oral history to capture the memories of the Sikh community and help to inform the development and production of a book (500 copies) which charts the development of this facility.

The project will look at the development of the temple and community through oral history and collection of photographs. Public meetings will be held in order to increase and encourage participation from the wider community. The information will be held in several libraries as the Sikh Temple Library, Leeds City Library, British Museum Library and Leeds Archives.

The group have discussed the project with these organisations who are willing to house the documentation. Training will be provided on the use of Digital Recording Equipment and digital image production and manipulation, In addition the community will gain interviewing skills.
