South Ferriby Friends of the School Heritage Project
Location: North Lincolnshire
The project will investigate the history of the village primary school which, closing to be replaced by a new building after 130 years. The group will hold an exhibition celebrating the history of the school and village at which they will record the memories of former pupils and teachers. These will be stored on CD ROM and audio CD (500 copies of each) and given to the local community. The exhibition will be widely advertised and accessible to everyone. Sheffield Hallam University have agreed to advise the group on collecting memories. An open weekend will be held at the school and further information will be collected alongside community workshops.
Museum staff will provide advice on the design of the exhibition displays which will be produced by the community.
Separate workshops will encourage the young people of the community to participate, these will involve translating the experiences captured into a mural as well as designing a heritage trail leaflet based on the recordings.
A final event celebrating the life of the school will be held with reunions and further collection of material.
