A Stitch in Time
Location: North Yorkshire
The group will investigate the heritage and culture of Filey in particular looking at the disappearing maritime heritage of the Filey bay area.
The group will engage with other local organisations in order to collect memories and information about the heritage of Filey, they will also access information from local archives and museums. The group will then use this information (stories, images, records) to begin to design a tapestry which reflects the heritage of the area.
Workshop sessions will be held on a weekly basis to work on the research, design and production of the tapestry. Each member of the local community will be invited to contribute at least one stitch to the work.
The group will also produce leaflets outlining the heritage they discover and charting the construction of the tapestry. Each contributor to the tapestry will be invited to sign a commemorative book which will celebrate the history of the town and their part in the tapestry.
