A study of the history and regeneration of Catterick Village
Location: North Yorkshire

This project aims to offer local people the opportunity to record the past and present of Catterick and Turnstall. The history and art groups are leading the project to produce a book based on research into pre-Roman, Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Norman times, also looking into worship, employment, local familities, military and mining.

Past excavations have uncovered artifacts from a Roman garrison site many of which are now held at York museum. The group plans to link researching the history of this site with the development of the present army garrison. Volunteers from the Primary Scool, Church groups and business will be involved. Mike Wood, a curator and historian will advice the group on a voluntary basis. The village newsletter and local paper will be used to raised awareness of the project.
