Appleton Le Moors History Group & Archive
Location: North Yorkshire

This group have identified a large collection of historic records, research and documentation held by residents about their village and plan to collate this information, asking the community to contribute any relevant information. The group will also involve local school children in collecting oral history records and memories of the village.

This project will bring together community members and existing community groups to provide the wider community with a sense of history relating to their surroundings.

Three public events/meetings are planned, one at the initial stage to increase awareness of the project and encourage community involvement, the second during the project to update on progress and a final event to celebrate the project's completion.

Group members will work with a professional historian/author who has published a book on the history of the village and who has agreed to donate part of her archive to the group. The group will purchase IT equipment to enable them to store and analyse data and receive training in archive techiques, IT skills (scanning, digital photography, database techniques and audio recording) and public speaking/presentation skills.

The completed village archive will comprise of maps, deeds, census records, photographs, school and church records, family trees and audio materials will be securely stored in the village hall and made available and accessible to all.
