Bentham Heritage Trail
Location: North Yorkshire
This project will develop a greater awareness of the heritage of Bentham by creating a trail around the countryside and the town. Bentham is a traditional market town.
The project will research the importance of the market, weaving/mill traditions, vital role of agriculture in the local economy and the way the river and railway have influenced the town. The trail will pass through farmland, moor, woods and be divided into three parts of lengths 2.5, 5.5 and 9.5 miles crossing terrain where deer, kingfishers, curlew can be spotted.
Local people have walked possible trails and decided on the most suitable route - this has been displayed at the local Agricultural Show for comments and suggestions. Interpretation boards and a brochure guide/virtual tour will be researched and written by volunteers under the guidance of a local historian.
