Bilton with Harrogate - Our Historical Countryside
Location: North Yorkshire

This project involves the undertaking of a landscape study, focusing on the archaeological, built and natural heritage of Bilton. Study topics will include fieldwork, eg wildlife boundary and building studies as well as research of archives. A short report will be produced which will direct the group towards Phase 2 - some more detailed studies culminating in the creation of a public database and a publication. As a result of this project, the group aim to raise local awareness and pride in Bilton and hope follow-up detailed studies and possibly restortion works will be undertaken by an expanded history group.

The group have already promoted their ideas through the media and at public meetings and aim to involve a broad sector of the community, interest groups and schools. The project launch is set for the Bilton Gala in May.

The group hope to establish training programmes in field recording, data management and IT. Professional advice and training will be sought to ensure quality.
