Bilton with Harrogate Our Historic Industry
Location: North Yorkshire

Following completion of Phase 1 it was found that there is a much greater degree of historical industrial activity in the Nidd Gorge than was suspected and it was recommended that this be further researched.

Phase 2 of the Project will produce a detailed non-invasive Landscape Survey of sites of industrial archaeology. The techniques and methodology to be used will be similar to those in Phase 1 and volunteers will use and build on skills acquired, while at the same time training new volunteers in these skills. The work will also involve the continuing production of a CD Gazetteer compatible with systems used by North Yorkshire County council Sites and Monuments Records Office and Harrogate Borough Council.

The project is a good example of community groups undertaking high quality non-invasive landscape surveys.
