Craven's Part in the Great War
Location: North Yorkshire
The project is based on an idea from an original book published in 1919 commemorating every soldier from the Craven District who fell in WW1.
The group will take original material from this now out of print and rare publication and digitise it before creating a web site and publishing it on the internet. Once the basic information is available on the web, the group will involve the wider community and local schools in researching further information about the men and their lives.
The community will be invited to submit information to the project through a voucher system and supported by articles in the local paper, The Craven Herald & Pioneer. The group will also run 6 cascade workshops and develop learning packs of resources in order to encourage people to develop mini-projects on different aspects of the lives of the soldiers. These interactive learning sessions will teach web-based research techniques.
The group will update the web pages with details of where the fallen soldiers' graves are by working with the Commonwealth Graves Commission. Once all the information is gathered it will be presented in the form of a CD-ROM which will free to all workshop participants.
